Gathering, to remember.

Hello Friends,

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
     And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery."

This Sunday, The Commons family will Gather together for a time of worship, teaching, prayer and story. We're jumping back into our yearlong "God || Story" teaching series, exploring the redemptive work of God from Creation to New Creation. This week we are digging into the Book of Judges, journeying with the people of Israel, now in the land of the Lord's promise to them, and struggling to remain faithful.

At the heart of Israel's struggle is a question of memory: will they REMEMBER the Lord, his mighty works and promises to them, or forget these things? Will they remember who they are as a covenant people, or lose themselves amidst the culture and worship of surrounding nations?

What is the story that shapes our worship and identity as the people of Jesus, today? Do WE remember, and lead our lives in light of the story of our salvation and hope in Christ, or is another story that guides our steps?

Join us this Sunday as we remember, together, the goodness and calling of God over us in Jesus!
